din Dhalā shab huī charāġh jale
bazm-e-rindāñ meñ phir ayāġh jale
daf.atan āñdhiyoñ ne ruḳh badlā
nā-gahāñ aarzū ke baaġh jale
aas Duubī to dil huā raushan
bujh gayā dil to dil ke daaġh jale
jal-bujhe justujū ke parvāne
mustaqil manzil-e-surāġh jale
gaah masrūfiyat sulag uTThe
gaah tanhā.ī o farāġh jale
āñkheñ kartī haiñ shabnam-afshānī
jab tirī yaad meñ dimāġh jale
un kā chehra tah-e-naqāb 'aḳhtar'
jaise parde meñ ik charāġh jale
din Dhala shab hui charagh jale
bazm-e-rindan mein phir ayagh jale
dafatan aandhiyon ne ruKH badla
na-gahan aarzu ke bagh jale
aas Dubi to dil hua raushan
bujh gaya dil to dil ke dagh jale
jal-bujhe justuju ke parwane
mustaqil manzil-e-suragh jale
gah masrufiyat sulag uTThe
gah tanhai o faragh jale
aankhen karti hain shabnam-afshani
jab teri yaad mein dimagh jale
un ka chehra tah-e-naqab 'aKHtar'
jaise parde mein ek charagh jale
