    kabhī hameñ thā ta.alluq sabhoñ se ab kyā hai

    jahāñ sukūt musallat hai dam-ba-ḳhud hai hayāt

    vahīñ se shor-e-qayāmat uThe ajab kyā hai

    jo zehn meñ siyāhī uñDel de sūraj

    to phir tamīz kise sub.h kyā hai shab kyā hai

    janm diyā hai dukhoñ ne ġhamoñ ne paalā hai

    ḳhudā se pūchhiye merā hasab-nasab kyā hai

    vo zahr-e-ḳhand jo ghole haiñ chashm o lab ne tire

    tujhe ḳhushī ho to pūchheñ ki zer-e-lab kyā hai

    uThe haiñ haath to apne karam laaj bachā

    vagarna merī duā kyā mirī talab kyā hai

    na puchh marg-e-shanasai ka sabab kya hai

    kabhi hamein tha talluq sabhon se ab kya hai

    jahan sukut musallat hai dam-ba-KHud hai hayat

    wahin se shor-e-qayamat uThe ajab kya hai

    jo zehn hi mein siyahi unDel de suraj

    to phir tamiz kise subh kya hai shab kya hai

    janm diya hai dukhon ne ghamon ne pala hai

    KHuda se puchhiye mera hasab-nasab kya hai

    wo zahr-e-KHand jo ghole hain chashm o lab ne tere

    tujhe KHushi ho to puchhen ki zer-e-lab kya hai

    uThe hain hath to apne karam ki laj bacha

    wagarna meri dua kya meri talab kya hai
