ḳhaak honā hai to ḳhāk-e-kū-e-jānāñ kyuuñ na ho
dahr meñ ai ḳhvāja Thahrī jab asīrī nā-guzīr
dil asīr-e-halqa-e-gesū-e-pechāñ kyuuñ na ho
ziist hai jab mustaqil āvāragardī hī kā naam
aql vaalo phir tavāf-e-kū-e-jānāñ kyuuñ na ho
jab nahīñ mastūriyoñ meñ bhī gunāhoñ se najāt
dil khule bandoñ ġharīq-e-bahr-e-isyāñ kyuuñ na ho
ik na ik hañgāme par mauqūf hai jab zindagī
mai-kade meñ rind raqsāñ o ġhazal-ḳhvāñ kyuuñ na ho
jab ḳhush o nā-ḳhush kisī ke haath meñ denā hai haath
ham-nashīñ phir bai.at-e-jām-e-zar-afshāñ kyuuñ na ho
jab bashar kī dastaras se duur hai hablul-matīñ
dasht-e-vahshat meñ phir ik kāfir kā dāmāñ kyuuñ na ho
ek hai jab shor-e-jahl o bāñg-e-hikmat kā ma.aal
dil halāk-e-zauq-e-gulbāñg-e-pareshāñ kyuuñ na ho
ik na ik rif.at ke aage sajda lāzim hai to phir
aadmī mahv-e-sujūd-e-sarv-e-ḳhūbāñ kyuuñ na ho
ik na ik phande hī meñ phañsnā hai jab insān ko
dosh par dām-e-siyāh-e-sumbulistāñ kyuuñ na ho
jab fareboñ meñ hī rahnā hai to ai ahl-e-ḳhirad
lazzat-e-paimān bār-e-sust-paimāñ kyuuñ na ho
yaañ jab āvezish hī Thahrī hai to zarre chhoḌ kar
aadmī ḳhurshīd se dast-o-garebāñ kyuuñ na ho
ik na ik zulmat se jab vābasta rahnā hai to 'josh'
zindagī par sāya-e-zulf-e-pareshāñ kyuuñ na ho
fikr hi Thahri to dil ko fikr-e-KHuban kyun na ho
KHak hona hai to KHak-e-ku-e-jaanan kyun na ho
dahr mein ai KHwaja Thahri jab asiri na-guzir
dil asir-e-halqa-e-gesu-e-pechan kyun na ho
zist hai jab mustaqil aawaragardi hi ka nam
aql walo phir tawaf-e-ku-e-jaanan kyun na ho
jab nahin masturiyon mein bhi gunahon se najat
dil khule bandon ghariq-e-bahr-e-isyan kyun na ho
ek na ek hangame par mauquf hai jab zindagi
mai-kade mein rind raqsan o ghazal-KHwan kyun na ho
jab KHush o na-KHush kisi ke hath mein dena hai hath
ham-nashin phir baiat-e-jam-e-zar-afshan kyun na ho
jab bashar ki dastaras se dur hai hablul-matin
dasht-e-wahshat mein phir ek kafir ka daman kyun na ho
ek hai jab shor-e-jahl o bang-e-hikmat ka maal
dil halak-e-zauq-e-gulbang-e-pareshan kyun na ho
ek na ek rifat ke aage sajda lazim hai to phir
aadmi mahw-e-sujud-e-sarw-e-KHuban kyun na ho
ek na ek phande hi mein phansna hai jab insan ko

jab farebon mein hi rahna hai to ai ahl-e-KHirad
lazzat-e-paiman bar-e-sust-paiman kyun na ho
