naqsh ki tarah ubharna bhi tumhi se sikha

baiThe baiThe kaisa dil ghabra jata hai

is ummid pe roz charagh jalate hain

basti mein kuchh log nirale ab bhi hain

barson hue tum kahin nahin ho

ye sach hai yahan shor ziyaada nahin hota

chhalak rahi hai mai-e-nab tishnagi ke liye

ye udasi ye phailte sae

ek ke ghar ki KHidmat ki aur ek ke dil se mohabbat ki

koi hangama sar-e-bazm uThaya jae

raat gahri thi phir bhi sawera sa tha

apna har andaz aankhon ko tar-o-taza laga

jo dil ne kahi lab pe kahan aai hai dekho

bhuli-bisri yaadon ko lipTae hue hun

rishte se muhafiz ka KHatra jo nikal jata

der tak raushni rahi kal raat

wahshat mein bhi minnat-kash-e-sahra nahin hote

ye hukm hai ki andhere ko raushni samjho

raunaqen ab bhi kiwaDon mein chhupi lagti hain

qurbaton se kab talak apne ko bahlaenge hum

harf harf gundhe the tarz mushkbu ki thi

hum log jo KHak chhante hain

lab par KHamoshiyon ko sajae nazar churae

dil bujhne laga aatish-e-ruKHsar ke hote

sar jhukae hue ek rah pe chalte rahiye

junun-e-awwalin shaistagi thi

hamein to aadat-e-zaKHm-e-safar hai kya kahiye

yun kahne ko pairaya-e-izhaar bahut hai

ye kya sitam hai koi rang-o-bu na pahchane

wo jo ek shakl mere chaar taraf bikhri thi

KHush jo aae the pasheman gae

chamakti hui dhup tezi se nikli

kyun ai gham-e-firaq ye kya baat ho gai

ab tak sharik-e-mahfil-e-aghyar kaun hai

jaan dena bas ek ziyan ka sauda tha

ruk ja hujum-e-gul ki abhi hausla nahin

raat ajab aaseb-zada sa mausam tha

har aan sitam Dhae hai kya jaaniye kya ho

ek tera gham jis ko rah-e-motabar jaanen

gardish-e-mina-o-jam dekhiye kab tak rahe

surat-e-dilkashi rahi KHwahish-e-zindagi rahi

safar KHud-raftagi ka bhi ajab andaz tha

is rahguzar mein apna qadam bhi juda mila

tera KHayal farozan hai dekhiye kya ho

har hukmran aa ke ba-sad-naz-o-iftiKhaar

har Khaar inayat tha har ek sang sila tha
