City is a physical space;

it is also a metaphor of suffering as well as of aspirations and achievements. It is a place where dreams are nurtured as well as scattered and spoiled. City has been treated variously in the poetry of both the East and the West. The modern poets, however, have executed the images of city more frequently than others.
