ab maiñ samjhā tire ruḳhsār pe til kā matlab
daulat-e-husn pe darbān biThā rakkhā hai
The import of this spot upon your face I now detect
The treasure of your beauty does this sentinel protect

kisī kī raah meñ kāñTe kisī kī raah meñ phuul
hamārī raah meñ tūfāñ hai dekhiye kyā ho
kisi ki rah mein kanTe kisi ki rah mein phul
hamari rah mein tufan hai dekhiye kya ho
muddatoñ baad jo is raah se guzrā huuñ 'qamar'
ahd-e-rafta ko bahut yaad kiyā hai maiñ ne
