kahūñ kis se maiñ ki kyā hai shab-e-ġham burī balā hai
mujhe kyā burā thā marnā agar ek baar hotā
of gloomy nights alone and sad, to whom should I complain?
Dying just once would not be bad, but each evening again?
kahun kis se main ki kya hai shab-e-gham buri bala hai
mujhe kya bura tha marna agar ek bar hota
koī tohmat ho mire naam chalī aatī hai
jaise bāzār meñ har ghar se galī aatī hai
koi tohmat ho mere nam chali aati hai
jaise bazar mein har ghar se gali aati hai
nāhaq ham majbūroñ par ye tohmat hai muḳhtārī kī
chāhte haiñ so aap kareñ haiñ ham ko abas badnām kiyā
