aaj ik aur baras biit gayā us ke baġhair
jis ke hote hue hote the zamāne mere
rakhnā hai kahīñ paañv to rakkho ho kahīñ paañv
chalnā zarā aayā hai to itrā.e chalo ho
rakhna hai kahin panw to rakkho ho kahin panw
chalna zara aaya hai to itrae chalo ho
yā to jo nā-fahm haiñ vo bolte haiñ in dinoñ
yā jinheñ ḳhāmosh rahne kī sazā ma.alūm hai
ya to jo na-fahm hain wo bolte hain in dinon
ya jinhen KHamosh rahne ki saza malum hai
nāhaq ham majbūroñ par ye tohmat hai muḳhtārī kī
chāhte haiñ so aap kareñ haiñ ham ko abas badnām kiyā
Us weak, she wrongfully accuses, of taking untold liberty
while she acts as she chooses, and maligns us needlessly
nahaq hum majburon par ye tohmat hai muKHtari ki
chahte hain so aap karen hain hum ko abas badnam kiya
tar-dāmanī pe shaiḳh hamārī na jā.iyo
dāman nichoḌ deñ to farishte vazū kareñ
do not be deceived by it damp disposition
if I wring my cloak, angels will do ablution
tar-damani pe shaiKH hamari na jaiyo
daman nichoD den to farishte wazu karen
kah rahā hai shor-e-dariyā se samundar kā sukūt
jis kā jitnā zarf hai utnā hī vo ḳhāmosh hai
the river's raging is advised by the tranquil sea
the greater power you possess, the quieter you be
kah raha hai shor-e-dariya se samundar ka sukut
jis ka jitna zarf hai utna hi wo KHamosh hai
