Sher on Mahroomi
Deprivation has been
one of the more popular concerns in poetry. Most of these relate with the lovers who have been pining and lamenting over their fate. They have thus been configured variously through ages. Here are some examples that may help you appreciate the experience of deprivation.
ik aabla thā so bhī gayā ḳhār-e-ġham se phaT
terī girah meñ kyā dil-e-andoh-gīñ rahā
ek aabla tha so bhi gaya KHar-e-gham se phaT
teri girah mein kya dil-e-andoh-gin raha
bas ek baar manāyā thā jashn-e-mahrūmī
phir us ke baad koī ibtilā nahīñ aa.ī
bas ek bar manaya tha jashn-e-mahrumi
phir us ke baad koi ibtila nahin aai
ye bhī ik rañg hai shāyad mirī mahrūmī kā
koī hañs de to mohabbat kā gumāñ hotā hai
ye bhi ek rang hai shayad meri mahrumi ka
koi hans de to mohabbat ka guman hota hai
